Red-backed Flameback, Dinopium psarodes, is a woodpecker of central and southern Sri Lanka, where it is found in the Oriental Region and is absent from the far north. It is a Sri Lankan endemic and no subspecies are recognised. The bird is notable for its red-backed plumage, and it has long been treated as a distinct species, though it has also been placed with the Black-rumped flameback. It occurs in dry forest, moist lowland forest, mangroves and gardens, and is the most common woodpecker in Sri Lanka.
