Red-backed Hawk

Geranoaetus polyosoma

The Red-backed Hawk, scientifically known as Geranoaetus polyosoma, is a majestic bird of prey found in South America. This raptor is known for its striking red back and chest, contrasting with a dark head and wings. With a wingspan of around 120-150 cm, the Red-backed Hawk is a medium-sized bird of prey. It is a skilled hunter, preying on small mammals, reptiles, and other birds. This species is often found in open habitats such as grasslands, savannas, and agricultural areas, where it can be seen soaring high in the sky or perched on elevated vantage points.
