Red-billed Chough

Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax

The Red-billed Chough is a distinctive corvid with glossy black plumage, a red bill, and long, curved red legs. It is known for its acrobatic flight and distinctive 'chee-ow' call. These social birds form close-knit flocks and are often seen wheeling and diving over cliffs and high mountains. They are opportunistic feeders, foraging for insects, small invertebrates, and plant matter in a variety of habitats. Red-billed Choughs are highly adaptable and can be found in alpine meadows, coastal cliffs, and even urban areas. Their populations are generally stable, but they face threats from habitat loss and disturbance.
