Red-billed Firefinch, Lagonosticta senegala, is a resident breeding bird across western, east-central, eastern and southern Africa, belonging to the waxbill family. It is a small finch-like species that is often seen near people, and it also uses open grassland and cultivated ground. The adult male is scarlet apart from brown wings, with a pink bill and a yellow eye-ring. Females are brown above and buff below, with a small red patch before each eye and a pink bill.
