Tockus erythrorhynchus
The Red-billed Hornbill is a distinctive bird with a long, down-curved red bill and black and white plumage. These medium-sized birds are known for their distinctive call and are often found in savannas, woodlands, and scrublands of sub-Saharan Africa. They are omnivorous, feeding on insects, fruits, and small animals. Red-billed Hornbills are cavity nesters, using natural holes in trees or rock crevices for nesting. They are also known for their unique breeding behavior, where the female seals herself inside the nest cavity using her own droppings, leaving only a small slit through which the male feeds her. This species is not currently considered at risk and is widely distributed across its range.
