Red-billed Streamertail, Trochilus polytmus, is a hummingbird found in Jamaica, apart from the extreme east of the island. It was described by Linnaeus in 1758 and is the country’s national bird. The species is recognised as monotypic, with no subspecies. It lives in evergreen montane forest, lowland tropical forest and secondary forest, and avoids mangroves and dry uplands. Its range runs from sea level to 1,500 m, and it is an elevational migrant.
