Red-breasted Swallow, Cecropis semirufa, is a swallow of widespread Africa south of the Sahara. It breeds across much of the continent, with a range that reaches southern Africa and extends through parts of eastern and western Africa. It is a bird of open country, and in wetter periods it is tied to tropical rainforest. Its nest is a closed mud structure with a tubular entrance, placed in cavities, under bridges, in old buildings, tree holes or caves. Two subspecies are recognised, with birds in the east showing intermediate features.
