Red-capped Coua

Coua serriana

The Red-capped Coua is a medium-sized bird native to the dry forests and scrublands of Madagascar. It is known for its striking appearance, with a bright red cap on its head, a greenish-blue body, and a long tail. These birds are skilled climbers and are often seen foraging for insects and small reptiles in the treetops. They are also known for their distinctive calls, which include a series of melodious whistles and coos. The Red-capped Coua is a territorial species and can often be found in pairs or small family groups. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential risks to their populations.
