Red-capped lark

Calandrella cinerea

The Red-capped lark (Calandrella cinerea) is a small, ground-dwelling bird found in open grasslands and arid regions of Africa and southern Europe. It is characterized by its sandy brown plumage with a distinctive red cap on its head. This species is known for its melodious song and aerial displays during courtship. Red-capped larks forage for seeds and insects on the ground, using their sharp beaks to probe the soil. They are well-adapted to dry habitats and can often be seen running swiftly across the ground. Although their populations are generally stable, habitat loss and agricultural intensification pose potential threats to their future survival.
