Red-chested Owlet

Glaucidium tephronotum Sharpe, 1875

Red-chested Owlet, Glaucidium tephronotum, is an owl of western and central Africa, where it breeds in tropical rainforest and related forest habitats. It was described by Sharpe in 1875. A very small owl, it is marked by a light grey facial disc with pale markings, short white brows, dark grey head and neck, and sooty brown upperparts. The tail shows three faint bars. The breast and flanks are washed reddish brown, while the rest of the underparts are whitish with rufous streaking on the belly sides. The iris and bill are yellow.
