Lophotis ruficrista
The Red-crested Bustard is a medium-sized bird found in the grasslands and savannas of eastern and southern Africa. It is known for its striking red crest and black and white plumage. These birds are ground-dwellers and are often seen foraging for insects and seeds. They have a distinctive call that can be heard during their courtship displays. Red-crested Bustards are well adapted to their grassland habitat and are known for their elaborate mating displays. Although not currently classified, their populations may face threats from habitat loss and hunting.
