Red-crested Pochard

The Red-crested Pochard is a striking diving duck with a distinctive red bill and a prominent red crest on the male. These ducks are known for their elegant appearance and are often found in freshwater lakes, ponds, and marshes. They are strong divers and feed on aquatic plants, small invertebrates, and seeds. During the breeding season, the male performs elaborate courtship displays to attract females. The Red-crested Pochard is a migratory species, breeding in Europe and western Asia, and wintering in the Mediterranean, North Africa, and parts of Asia. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and hunting, they are currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
