Estrildidae — Waxbills, Munias & Allies

Red-eared Parrotfinch, Erythrura coloria, is a bird of montane Mindanao in the southern Philippines, where it lives in the Oriental Region. It was described by Ripley & Rabor in 1961. This estrildid finch is tied to forest at altitude above 1,000 metres, including understorey, forest edges, second growth and grassy openings. It is also present on many mountains in central Mindanao. The bird is shy and hard to notice, and its high-pitched voice can be missed even though it is not unusual at Kitanglad.
