Red-faced Mousebird

Urocolius indicus (Latham, 1790)

Red-faced Mousebird, Urocolius indicus, is a mousebird of southern Africa, ranging from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Tanzania south to the Cape. It lives in savanna with thickets, fynbos scrub, open woodland, gardens and orchards. The bird has a pale cinnamon crest and breast, a red bill and eye mask, blue-grey upperparts and tail, a paler grey rump, and a whitish belly. Juveniles lack the crest and show a green mask. It is a sedentary species that breeds from June to February, with a large untidy nest and a clutch of 2–6 eggs.
