Red Fox Sparrow, Passerella iliaca, is a New World sparrow that breeds in north-western to eastern Canada and Alaska, and spends the non-breeding season in south-central and south-eastern USA. It is one of the largest sparrows in its family, and the red fox sparrow form is the brightest of the group. Adults are heavily marked below, with a central breast spot that is less obvious in the slate-coloured and thick-billed forms. The species was described by Merrem in 1786.
