Lagopus scotica
The Red Grouse, scientifically known as Lagopus scotica, is a medium-sized bird native to the moorlands of Great Britain and Ireland. This species is well-adapted to its heathery habitat, with a mottled reddish-brown plumage that provides excellent camouflage. Red Grouse are known for their distinctive 'go-back-go-back' call during the breeding season. They primarily feed on a variety of plant matter, including heather shoots and seeds. Due to habitat loss and hunting pressure, the conservation status of the Red Grouse is of concern, although specific population data is limited.
