Red-hooded Tanager, Piranga rubriceps, is a passerine of the Cardinalidae family that breeds in South America from Colombia to Peru. It was described by Gray, GR, in 1844. In the Andes it lives in humid montane forest, using both the interior and the margins, especially where mosses and epiphytes are abundant. Its range runs through the Western, Central and Eastern Andes of Colombia, then along the eastern Andean slope through Ecuador to Peru. The species is monotypic.
