Crypturellus erythropus
The Red-legged Tinamou is a small ground-dwelling bird found in the tropical forests of South America. It has a mottled brown plumage that provides excellent camouflage in the dense undergrowth where it forages for fruits, seeds, and insects. This secretive bird is known for its distinctive whistling calls that echo through the forest. Red-legged Tinamous are primarily solitary and are often heard more than seen. They are important seed dispersers and play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of their habitat.
