Red Lory

Eos semilarvata

The Red Lory (Eos semilarvata) is a striking parrot species native to the islands of Fiji. These medium-sized parrots are known for their vibrant red plumage, with patches of blue and black on their wings and tail. They have a specialized brush-tipped tongue for feeding on nectar, pollen, and fruits. Red Lories are highly social birds, often found in flocks, and are known for their playful and energetic nature. They inhabit tropical forests and coconut plantations, where they can be seen feeding on flowering trees and shrubs. Unfortunately, habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade have led to population declines in some areas.
