Red-masked Parakeet, Psittacara erythrogenys, breeds in western Ecuador and north-western Peru. It is a parrot of jungle and deciduous forest, and it also occurs in semiarid and suburban areas. The bird is known for its mostly red head, with a pale eye-ring that stands out clearly, while the nape remains green. Red also appears on the underwing coverts, the neck, the thighs and the front edge of the wings. Juveniles are green at first, with red feathers appearing later.
