Red Myzomela

Red Myzomela, Myzomela cruentata, is a honeyeater found in New Guinea and New Britain in Australasia. It occurs in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest. Two subspecies are recognised: M. c. cruentata in New Guinea and Yapen, and M. c. coccinea in New Britain and the Duke of York Islands. It was once treated as the same species as the reddish myzomela of New Ireland, but it is now regarded as separate. It belongs to the family Meliphagidae and was described by Meyer, AB, 1874.
