Red-naped Trogon
Harpactes orrhophaeus
The Red-naped Trogon is a medium-sized bird found in the forests of Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive red nape and upper back, with a greenish-black head and upperparts. The underparts are bright yellow with a black and white pattern on the belly. This species is known for its distinctive call, a series of soft, low hoots. Red-naped Trogons feed on insects and small fruits, often perching quietly while hunting. They are cavity nesters, often utilizing old woodpecker holes for nesting. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential concerns for this species.
