Red Sea Cliff Swallow

Petrochelidon perdita (Fry & Smith, DA, 1985)

Red Sea Cliff Swallow, Petrochelidon perdita, is a swallow of the family Hirundinidae that breeds in eastern Sudan. It is known from a single specimen taken in May 1984 at Sanganeb lighthouse, north-east of Port Sudan. The species may be confined to Sudan, and there have been suggestions that it breeds in the hills around the Red Sea in Sudan or Ethiopia. Unidentified cliff swallows have also been reported in Ethiopia, and pale-rumped swallows were seen at Sanganeb in 1983 heading out over the Red Sea.
