Red-shouldered Spinetail, Synallaxis hellmayri, is a passerine in the ovenbird family, Furnariidae, and it breeds in eastern Brazil. It is a resident bird of arid scrubby woodland in the caatinga, especially where terrestrial bromeliads are plentiful, and it occurs in a band of country roughly between Piauí, western Pernambuco and far northern Minas Gerais. It was once placed in Gyalophylax, but is now included in Synallaxis. The species is monotypic. Adults have black chin and throat, chestnut wing coverts, a long blackish tail with blunt tips, and orange to rufescent eyes.
