Red-tailed Amazon, Amazona brasiliensis, is a parrot that breeds in south-east Brazil and is found in the Serra do Mar coastal forests. It belongs to the family Psittacidae. It is also called the red-tailed parrot. The species is linked with efforts to protect one of the world’s richest natural areas. It has faced pressure from loss of habitat and from being taken for the wild bird trade. In 1991–92, numbers dropped below 2000 individuals, but later counts from 2015 suggested 9,000–10,000, and a recent study found the population in Paraná state to be stable.
