Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, Calyptorhynchus banksii, is a cockatoo of Australia, found across most of the country except the south-west, south-east and Tasmania. It is associated with eucalyptus woodland and with watercourses, and is more often encountered in the drier inland regions. Adult males show a pair of vivid red tail panels, the feature that gives the bird its name. Five subspecies are recognised, with differences mainly in bill size. The northern forms are widespread, while the two southern subspecies face pressure from habitat loss and other changes to the landscape.
