Red-throated Swallow

Cecropis senegalensis

The Red-throated Swallow is a small passerine bird found in sub-Saharan Africa. It is known for its distinctive red throat and deeply forked tail. These agile birds are often seen in flight, catching insects on the wing. They build cup-shaped nests from mud and grass, often under overhangs or in buildings. The Red-throated Swallow is a migratory species, spending the non-breeding season in southern Africa before returning to breed in the northern regions. Their melodious twittering calls are a familiar sound in their habitats.
