Red-winged Fairywren, Malurus elegans, is a passerine in the Australasian wren family and breeds in south-west Western Australia. Gould described it in 1837. It is confined to the south-western corner of the state and does not move away seasonally. The species is notable for strong differences between the sexes. Breeding males show an iridescent blue crown, ear coverts and upper back, with red shoulders and darker throat, wings and tail. Outside the breeding season, males, females and young are mostly grey-brown, though some males keep a few blue and black feathers.
