Redthroat

Pyrrholaemus brunneus Gould, 1841

Redthroat, Pyrrholaemus brunneus, is a passerine of the Acanthizidae found in south-western and south-central Australia, from western Western Australia through south-west Queensland to south-west New South Wales. It is a small, mostly ground-dwelling bird of arid and semi-arid country, especially acacia and chenopod shrublands. Adult males show a small rusty throat patch that gives the bird its name. The species was first described by Gould in 1841. It is also known for copying the calls of many other birds, and even the wingbeats of a crested pigeon.
