Redwing

Turdus iliacus

The Redwing (Turdus iliacus) is a small to medium-sized thrush found in Europe and Asia. It is known for its distinctive reddish-orange flanks and underwings, which contrast with its grayish-brown upperparts. During the breeding season, the male Redwing sings a melodious song from prominent perches in its woodland habitat. This migratory bird is often seen in flocks during the winter months, foraging for insects, berries, and fruits. The Redwing is adaptable and can be found in a variety of habitats, including woodlands, hedgerows, and open fields. While its populations are generally stable, habitat loss and climate change pose potential threats to this species.
