Reunion Ibis

Threskiornis solitarius

The Reunion Ibis, scientifically known as Threskiornis solitarius, is a critically endangered bird species endemic to the island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean. It is a medium-sized ibis with a distinct long, curved bill and predominantly dark plumage. Historically, the species inhabited various habitats across the island, including forests, wetlands, and coastal areas. However, extensive habitat loss and hunting led to a drastic decline in its population. The Reunion Ibis is currently on the brink of extinction, with conservation efforts focused on protecting its remaining habitat and implementing captive breeding programs to bolster its numbers.
