Cerorhinca monocerata
The Rhinoceros Auklet is a seabird species found in the North Pacific Ocean. It is known for its distinctive horn-like bill and striking black and white plumage. These birds are well adapted for diving and can reach depths of up to 100 meters in search of fish and invertebrates. They breed in colonies on coastal cliffs and islands, often in burrows or rock crevices. Rhinoceros Auklets are highly social birds and form large flocks outside the breeding season. They are important indicators of marine ecosystem health and face threats from habitat degradation and pollution.
