Ridgway's Hummingbird

Eupherusa ridgwayi

Ridgway's Hummingbird (Eupherusa ridgwayi) is a small, vibrant hummingbird species found in the cloud forests of Costa Rica and western Panama. It is known for its iridescent green and blue plumage, with males exhibiting a brilliant throat patch. These agile birds feed on nectar from a variety of flowers and are often seen darting among the forest understory. They also consume small insects and spiders as a source of protein. Ridgway's Hummingbirds play a vital role in pollination within their forest habitat, contributing to the diversity of plant species. Despite their localized range, they are not currently considered at risk, but ongoing habitat loss and climate change may pose future threats to their population.
