Ring-necked Dove, Streptopelia capicola, is a dove of eastern and southern Africa, with a breeding range that also includes the Comoros. It lives in open habitats and is mostly sedentary. Its name comes from the black semi-collar on the lower nape, a feature it shares with several other Streptopelia species. It depends on surface water and gathers in large flocks at waterholes in dry areas to drink and bathe. Its three-syllabled crooning is a familiar sound throughout the year.
