Riverside Wren

Cantorchilus semibadius (Salvin, 1870)

Riverside Wren, Cantorchilus semibadius, is a wren of Middle America, breeding in Costa Rica and Panama along the Pacific slope from the Gulf of Nicoya into western Panama. It lives in thick cover, especially beside water, at swampy woodland margins and on steep slopes. Its adult plumage is marked by a bright orange-brown crown, chestnut upperparts, a blackish tail barred with buff-white, and a face patterned in black and white. The underparts are pale grey with narrow black bars, becoming slightly buffier towards the rear. Juveniles are duller and more finely marked.
