Roadside Hawk, Rupornis magnirostris, breeds from Mexico through Middle America into South America as far as north-eastern Argentina. It is a bird of prey in the family Accipitridae and is now placed alone in Rupornis. Gmelin first described it in 1788. Across its range it is common, and in many places it is the hawk most often noticed in towns and cities. It adapts to most habitats except perhaps dense rainforest, and it can become bold around nests. Twelve subspecies are recognised, with marked variation between them.
