Rock Partridge

Alectoris graeca

The Rock Partridge (Alectoris graeca) is a medium-sized gamebird found in rocky, mountainous areas of southern Europe and parts of the Middle East. It is known for its cryptic plumage, with intricate patterns of brown, gray, and black, providing excellent camouflage among the rocky terrain. These birds are highly adapted to their rugged habitats, using their strong legs and feet to navigate steep slopes and cliffs. They are primarily ground-dwelling, foraging for seeds, insects, and vegetation. The Rock Partridge is known for its distinctive call, a series of loud, repetitive notes. While not currently considered globally threatened, local populations may face pressures from habitat loss and hunting.
