Rockefeller's Sunbird

Cinnyris rockefelleri

Rockefeller's Sunbird (Cinnyris rockefelleri) is a small passerine bird found in the montane forests of Tanzania. It is known for its striking iridescent plumage, with the male displaying a combination of metallic green, blue, and purple colors, while the female has more subdued plumage. This sunbird is often observed flitting between flowers, feeding on nectar and small insects. It builds its cup-shaped nest using plant fibers and spider silk, typically suspended from the branch of a tree. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the species faces threats from deforestation and degradation of its montane forest habitat.
