Ploceidae — Weavers, Widowbirds

Rodrigues Fody, Foudia flavicans, is a passerine in the weaver family that breeds on Rodrigues in the Indian Ocean. It was described by Newton, A, in 1865. The species is tied to the island of Rodrigues in the Mascarenes, where it is found in forest canopy and is linked with taller, denser stands of trees and a greater variety of tree species. It also uses Norfolk Island pine and some introduced plants. Birds may move in flocks. The species has been helped by reforestation and by fences that exclude livestock.
