Rodrigues Solitaire

Pezophaps solitaria

The Rodrigues Solitaire, scientific name Pezophaps solitaria, was a flightless bird endemic to the island of Rodrigues in the Indian Ocean. It was a member of the family of dodos and solitaires, and was closely related to the dodo. The Rodrigues Solitaire was a large, ground-dwelling bird with a robust build and a long neck. It had a distinctive hooked beak and short wings. The bird was primarily herbivorous, feeding on fruits, seeds, and vegetation. Unfortunately, the species became extinct in the late 18th century due to hunting and habitat destruction.
