Rodrigues Solitaire

Erythromachus leguati

The Rodrigues Solitaire, scientifically known as Erythromachus leguati, was a flightless bird endemic to the island of Rodrigues in the Indian Ocean. It was a member of the dodo family and was closely related to the extinct Réunion Solitaire. The Rodrigues Solitaire had a bulky body, long legs, and a large head with a hooked beak. It was primarily a ground-dwelling bird, foraging for fruits, seeds, and small invertebrates. The species became extinct in the late 18th century due to habitat destruction and hunting by humans.
