Rose-colored Starling

Rhodinocichla rosea

The Rose-colored Starling is a striking bird with a glossy black plumage, which is adorned with a rosy-pink wash during the breeding season. This medium-sized starling is known for its iridescent plumage and bright red eyes. During the non-breeding season, the adult plumage becomes less vibrant, with the pink wash fading to a pale gray. These birds are highly social and often form large flocks, particularly during migration. They are known for their melodious and varied calls, which contribute to their charm and appeal. The Rose-colored Starling is a migratory species, breeding in open woodlands and steppes of eastern Europe and western Asia, and wintering in Africa and the Indian subcontinent.
