Rothschild's pheasant

Lophura diardi

Rothschild's pheasant (Lophura diardi) is a striking bird species native to the mountainous forests of central Vietnam. This pheasant is known for its vibrant plumage, with the male displaying a combination of iridescent blue, green, and black feathers, while the female exhibits a more subdued brown and black coloration. These birds are primarily ground-dwellers, foraging for seeds, insects, and small invertebrates among the forest floor. Their habitat is threatened by deforestation and habitat loss, leading to concerns about their long-term survival. Conservation efforts are underway to protect the remaining populations of Rothschild's pheasant.
