Ruby-throated Hummingbird

Trochilus polytmus

The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is a small, migratory bird found in North America. Known for its iridescent green feathers and vibrant ruby-red throat patch on males, this species is a master of flight, capable of hovering and flying in all directions. They primarily feed on nectar from flowers and are important pollinators. During migration, they cross the Gulf of Mexico, a remarkable feat for such a tiny bird. Nesting in deciduous and pine forests, the female builds a cup-shaped nest using plant fibers and spider silk. These birds are a delight to observe, with their rapid wingbeats and distinctive humming sound.
