Rufescent Tiger-Heron

Tigrisoma lineatum

The Rufescent Tiger-Heron (Tigrisoma lineatum) is a medium-sized heron found in Central and South America. It is known for its striking appearance, with a rufous head and neck, contrasting with a black and white body. This species can be found in various wetland habitats, including marshes, swamps, and forested streams. Rufescent Tiger-Herons are skilled hunters, feeding on fish, amphibians, and small reptiles. They are often solitary and can be seen standing still near the water's edge, waiting to ambush their prey. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation pose potential threats to their populations.
