Calicalicus rufocarpalis
The Rufous-backed Honeyeater is a small bird native to the forests and woodlands of eastern Australia. It is characterized by its distinctive rufous-colored back and black head, with a contrasting white throat and chest. This species is known for its melodious and varied song, often heard during the breeding season. Rufous-backed Honeyeaters primarily feed on nectar, insects, and fruits, using their slender, curved bills to extract food from flowers and foliage. They are often observed foraging in the canopy of eucalyptus and other flowering trees. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and climate change, the Rufous-backed Honeyeater's population status is currently assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
