Rufous-backed Sibia

Pteruthius intermedius

The Rufous-backed Sibia (Pteruthius intermedius) is a small, colorful bird found in the eastern Himalayas and parts of Southeast Asia. This species is known for its distinctive rufous back and bright yellow underparts, with a black mask around the eyes. Rufous-backed Sibias are often found in mixed-species foraging flocks, where they flit through the forest canopy in search of insects and small fruits. Their melodious calls can often be heard echoing through the dense montane forests they inhabit. These birds are known for their social behavior, often forming close-knit family groups. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential risks to their populations.
