Rufous-backed Wren, Campylorhynchus capistratus, is a resident breeding bird of Middle America, ranging from south-west Mexico to north-west Costa Rica. It belongs to the wren family, Troglodytidae. In the field it is recognised by a black crown and eye stripe set off by a white supercilium, together with a rufous nape and cinnamon to chestnut upperparts marked with black and white, most strongly on the rump. The wings and tail are barred in black and greyish white, while the underparts are white. Young birds are duller above and buff below.
