Strix albitarsis (Bonaparte, 1850)
Rufous-banded Owl, Strix albitarsis, is an owl in the family Strigidae and breeds in South America from Venezuela to Bolivia. It is an Andean bird of humid evergreen montane forest and cloudforest, where the understorey is thick and mosses and epiphytes are present. In Venezuela it has also been noted in more open ground beside dense woodland. The species is placed in Strix by the IOC. It has a round head and lacks ear tufts. Adults show a rufous facial disc, white brows and lores, and dark upperparts marked with buffy rufous bars and spots.
