Rufous-bellied Euphonia

Euphonia rufiventris (Vieillot, 1819)

Rufous-bellied Euphonia, Euphonia rufiventris, is a finch of South America, breeding in the southern Orinoco basin and across western and central Amazonia. It was first described in 1819. The species is a small euphonia with a stout bill, and the sexes differ. Males have dark steel-blue upperparts and orange underparts, while females are mostly dark olive above and grey below. Both sexes show a pale blue-grey bill with a black tip to the mandible, dark brown eyes, and dark grey legs and feet. It is a year-round resident of humid forest, forest edges, mature secondary growth, and tall clearings.
